Fri Oct 26, 2007 10:27 pm   Apophis Academy

A man with long flowing blue robes stood upon the battlements of a castle. The Castle itself was situated on a large, jutting peninsula. The man was unarmed to the naked eye, but in truth he held a power far greater than a normal man. His name was Apophis. Nicknamed the Silver Dragon for his skill, not with a blade, but with magic. He stood there, holding the power that he had mastered. He looked up to the stars in the heavens to see if they could hold any clue, any precursor as to what would come. Another man, dressed in a robe of gray-green, walked up the winding stairs to the battlement and stood by him. “Arch-Mage Apophis, word has still not reached us from the forward scouts. We are assuming General Lettow is continuing his march, and our enchantments have failed.” He spoke lightly, and in a hushed voice. The Arch-Mage silently turned to face his fellow mage.

“Cideron, since when has our charge fallen? No, ever since the last Elf built this place we have stood guard. The enchantments placed in this castle is much stronger than the ones we placed ourselves on our borders.” Apophis crossed his arms and stared out into the Sea. “He may only attack from land from the one side, and our main gate is there. Our gatekeeper is well enough to take care of them. We must watch the Sea. His Navy and his own mages can attack our battlements from there. Our harbor is to wide to spread across the chains of old, and the incantations to invoke our maritime defender has been lost.” He let out a long drawn sigh. War was not his purpose, but the pursuit of knowledge was. If it took war to preserve what he must, he would.

“Shall I assemble the Battlemages? They can help the gatekeeper defend the main gate. Also what about the mages? Shall I rouse them as well? They will be instrumental in destroying his large armada.” Cideron was nervous. Very nervous. Before now no one had ever had the audacity to attack the academy. It was the only place to get a proper education in the ways of magic. Also, in wars it was long vied for because of the support the mages could give. Now that it was threatened, the magic that had held the place together for so long would be unleashed upon the enemies. Unfortunately it had been more formidable in the past, with several of its weapons still in their places, and ancient spells and rites still known. This time around though it would rely upon the strength of its students.

“Yes, have everyone at the ready. I will unlock the mage blade and its fire shall burn Lettow’s corpse.” Apophis said. He turned to leave, but he looked out to the horizon. The sun was arising, and with it brought something that he thought never to see. Hundreds upon Hundreds of warships, each with a crew fanatically devoted to the reigning warlord, Lettow. Lettow had once been a fine man, but he lost faith in the old republics. He took it upon himself to destroy it all. He raised such an army that no one had ever seen before, and each soldier seemed to fight like ten. Now his attention toward the unconquerable tower. The pinnacle of Magic. The lair of the Silver Dragon!

This was five years ago to the day. It was a horrible battle, resulting in the end of Lettow’s mad bid for conquest. Apophis plunged the Mage Blade straight into his heart, as he promised he would. The enchanted fires consumed his body, and saving the academy from sure destruction. Now, a horrible secret has resurfaced. Apophis knew this, yet he kept it from the Council, he had hoped it would be gone with the death of Lettow. It was perhaps this singular act that has allowed this threat to live on. Now, as tensions rise and the world raises its hand against magic, those who study it must undergo their greatest tribulation yet, and one event that is inevitable. The residents of this academy now must choose the paths they wish to take. Each path is twisting and turning, and you may choose any one, but they all lead to one inevitable fate.

A bit about this. I wanted to create something with a plot. Now I am not too fond of inn threads, or stuff like this, but I am going to try and give it enough elements to make it interesting. I want to give this a forced plot. Therefore every time we reach that little 50 on the bottom of the Rp thingy I will create a major plot altering event. When this happens everyone who is active will receive something to use in this Rp. Now, if you have any suggestions or changes please let me know. Also every 25 pages I will force a smaller event.

=Rules=
Everyone’s heard these before, but I want to be a tad stricter in this Rp. Not to strict, but strict enough to keep it clean and fun. These rules can also apply IC.

1. Marriage is forbidden at the Academy, or any serious romance. The occasional kiss is fine, but other than that you can get expelled from the Academy. You want to have a girlfriend/boyfriend go ahead. Just keep it at that level. Also if you want a romance, make sure it is well thought-out and that it contributes to the plot. If they have a point, I will be liberal.
2. No Flaming. Debates are OK, just not here. Got a problem with someone or how something’s being done, put it in PM.
3. No pointless Spam. Please do not post here unless you have posted a bio, you are considering joining, you have some advice, or you have a very good reason.
4. Pornography does not exist in this world. Do not make references to it IC.
5. Slight Godmodding may be allowed under special circumstances. I say “slight” and “special circumstances” Keep this in mind.
6. Please do not control MY Npc’s unless I give you permission, which I will if and when we get a lot of players.
7. No one liners. Please put thought behind your posts. Occasional one liners are OK. Big rule here. Always put detail, and when in doubt, just put what you are feeling to fill up a few lines.
8. More to come

Magic is very important here. It is your primary form of combat for mages, and it has several laws. You do not simply cast a fireball or alter the weather. I will not be strict and make you have points or limit your powers, but please remember you start off as an ordinary person with little to no magic ability. You will increase in power the more you Rp, the more things you do, and the longer you stay with the thread.

Magic itself has several physics. Magic you don’t conjure up out of nothing, nor is there any type of well or magical reserve. Magic is an infinite, ever-present essence that always surrounds us like an aura. A mage taps into this reserve and converts the magical energy into spells and such by using his body as a conduit. Theoretically a person can hold as much magic as there is magic. Holding onto more magic than your skill or body can take will kill you. There are usually three degrees of magic that you hold. Lesser, Medium, and Greater. These terms are never referred to unless in lessons. When you make a post just say you kind of held magic, (metaphorically. If you’ve ever read Wheel of Time the same concept is similar.)

Your ability to cast spells is influenced by your endurance. If you are sleepy or tired your spellcasting will be half of what it could be. When you are sleepy or tired you can still cast what you normally could, but with only half-effectiveness. The more magic you use over longer period of time the less magic you can hold for the moment. For example if you are in a battle and you either cast a high demanding spell or you cast a lot of spells for long durations, then you can not cast higher level spells and you must resort to smaller spells. The more you cast a fireball spell, the smaller it will become. This, however occurs over long periods of time.

These are some of the mechanics. I will trust you to gauge your own strength and reserve. I am giving you freedom, do not abuse it.

Next, Magic is divided into several loose groupings. Sometimes grouping can overlap slightly, resulting in mages usually specializing in one field. When an ability must be learned, it means only a master of that ability can teach it to you. You can’t learn it in a classroom or any old mage that happens to know it. It is usually very powerful and/or rare. When you make a Bio you will choose a main group to be proficient in. You will learn a greater power in that school over periods of time. You learn them by reading an enchanted scroll only given by Council Mages. On the other hand, any other spells you learn from class or you teach yourself by discovering them. I will be lax, you don’t keep a record of known spells and such. Once again, I’m trusting you to keep it realistic. Also you don’t limit what field of magic you can use. You can use any of them, (Except learned ones.)

Destruction- The ability to turn magic into a pure destructive force. General spells in this category involves magical fire,(Purple fire that does not share the same properties as regular fire.), spells that drain your power in various fields, and other destructive, offensive abilities.

Defensive- The ability to create shields, restore health, and slight telekinesis in order to defend yourself. A useful skill to fall back one to counter another persons spells.

Alteration: The ability to alter your environment. This includes teleportation, plant growth, manipulation of laws of physics, and at higher degrees weather alteration and the like, basically the practical application of magic. It’s mainly a non-combat ability, and a great way to make money. Also includes looking into the future. It can also be putting certain energies into an object giving it magical properties, known as enchanting.

Elementalists- One who uses the four elements, fire, earth, wind, and water to their offense and defense. You can use each one equally well. The most common choice because of its adaptability. Its major flaw is that it relies on your environment. You can only use water when there is a source of water nearby. You can’t use wind inside unless there is an open window and such.

Summoning- Often confused with necromancy. You summon various creature and/or items. A summoning mage is a master of ceremony and rituals. A good summoner can summon demonic creatures, magical weapons and machines, powerful wildlife, and spirits. Very powerful when properly applied. The major flaw In this group is that it taxes you tremendously, and the larger or more powerful thing being summoned, the longer it takes. Still, it is very formidable.

Darkness and Light: A mage is indifferent when following either the light or the dark, so they harness both. You either summon the powers of darkness or light to destroy enemies. Such as holy fire or a shadow blade. The combined usage of both prevents the mage from suffering ill effects from such diverse effects. This may be used for both defense and offense.

Aurum- This power is learned. The magic of gold, this is a highly volatile power and is very unique. It involves drawing power from gold, and using it to make your own spells. No known people have mastered this yet.

Astral- A unique form of magic that is only LEARNED. It deals with the heavens, or the sky. It relies heavily on the sun or mooned, and constellations. It is very powerful, and only the strongest mages can use it.

Necromancy- The art of the most horrible magic of creating dead creatures and unholy spells. While Darkness is closely related, it can not raise the dead and manipulate life. This is only LEARNED. It is out-lawed, and any respected mage is against it.

Now, if you read all of it good job. Now listen, I know that this is complicated, and may seem like something you don’t want to bother with. It’s not the case. Here you make up your own stuff like in any other RP, except we try to shoot for moderate realism (If magic existed.) Now, if you are confused just wing it. I’ll tell you if you aren’t doing it right. Like I said, with this kind of complicated system I am attempting to make thing ordered. I will be very lax with it once we go. Just remember the fundamental principals.

There are two groups at the Academy, Mages and Battlemages. Battlemages are not mages per se, but they are the guards of the Academy. They do not attend regular classes, and not all can use magic. They have their own ranking system, and they only take orders from Master Mages and up. They are allowed to carry weapons on the Academy grounds, and on the same token Mages aren’t. You get promotions for RPing actively, participating in Academy events, and such.

==Mages==

Wizard
Master Mage
Council Mage
Arch Mage

==Battlemages==
Brawler
Swordsman
Guardian
Warder
Battlemage
Battlemaster

Now, the Battlemages are a bit undeveloped, since they are only really here to give a chance for fighting characters. Now mages are going to be structured. Any Questions, feel free to ask.

Name- Obvious enough.

Age- It does not matter what age you enter the Academy, but don’t make it to old.

Race- I shouldn’t put this, but only Humans are allowed here. If you want another race you better have an extremely good reason for it and a spectacular history. I may consider adding more if this becomes active,

Weapon- Only if you are a Battlemage.

Armor- This includes what you wear, do not put what you wear in appearance. Mages only should have robes.

Appearance- Only your physical characteristics. Do not put armor here.

Primary Magic School- Mages only. Choose one of the groups of magic. It will have no other effect than it being the one you will prefer to use, and I will orient tasks to your favorite school of magic.

Personality- How your character acts.

History- Completely 100% optional. I always want to keep it open, let your history come when your character develops. I do expect to find out one way or another. This isn’t an excuse to be lazy.

I might add more later depending if I forgot something.

I will be controlling most NPC’s to make this RP functional. I will mainly be controlling the Arch-Mage, Apophis, and a new student. Due to the plot I have in mind I plan to have you guys either need to find out about these people, or a true description would give a hint away as to the plot. I will ask however that you do a bio, and if I ever want to make a new character non-essential to the plot, I will make a bio. When you start off you will be an apprentice mage. The novice rank is for people whose full admission is uncertain.
If it has a star after the name, it means it’s a non-essential NPC that I will be controlling to make this RP functional. Keep in mind if I get more members that I will delegate other’s those NPC’s to control.

Novice-

Apprentice Mage-
Reaves
Cauthon
Raith

Adept-

Wizard-

Master Mage-

Council Mage-

Clevean*
Arden*

Battlemaster-

((I have no Battlemages yet, so I need someone to fill in the spot of Battlemaster. If you want that spot, PM me.))

This RP was originally made for another site, so some of the material may be a little off. Once again, bear with me. Robby and I have talked about this, and this is going to be a serious Roleplay. I hope this works, may or may not, but at least I know Rob will be actively roleplaying.

All right, I really hope this RP makes it. I know this is confusing, but bear with me. Now yes, this will start out as an academy thread, but eventually it will evolve into something that you weren’t expecting. So, any questions, PM me. Welcome to the Academy of the Silver Dragon!

-------------------------

Cauthon had just recently arrived at the acadamy, and he was very eager to begin his training. As he walked through the courtyard, he saw many statues of important figure in the history of magic, all with a caption enscribed below them. As he was admiring one, a gust of wind blew a piece of parchment out of his hands. He went to go retrieve it and when he stood he saw a rather peculiar statue standing in front of him, without a caption plate at his feet. It was a man, seemingly clean-shaven, In odd clothing, with weird ornaments surrounding his waiste. 'Probably some foriegn mage' he thought to himself, as he rushed to see his new dorm.

Reaves sat on his bed as a new student burst into the room, full of energy. Reaves had been here a while, so he knew what to expect. So far he had had a dorm all to himself. He wasn't daunted by the prospect of sharing, in truth he was quite lonely. However he was naturally curious about the new kid, but he didn't let it show. He non-chalantly shrugged and rushed out a welcome. He sat back on his bed and began studying his magical homework, waiting for the newkid to ask some questions. Reaves didn't want to appear to clingy.

Emiyo was another new member of the academy and was mainly trying not to stick out much. he had recieved notice that his room was empty for now but might have another person rooming with him. He was relieved of this for he was not much of a people person. He immediately moved to his room and started on his class work

Magic School: defensive, healing

Personality: Mischievious but not to the point of hurting someone, shy around new people, quiet, hard working, will to learn

History: Disowned by his parents and taken in by elven mages.

Emiyo was deep in his work when he heard a knock on his door. He sighed and want to go see who it was. When he opened the door, he was faced with a tall brown haired teen (possibly his age) who seemed a bit unsure of himself. The newcomer held out a piece of parchment.

Delnocha: They told me this is the room I'm to stay in, but I must be mistaken because there is already someone here. Sorry to disturb you.

Delnocha seems embarassed and slightly disheartened at making a mistake on his first day. Emiyo reads over the parchement.

Emiyo: Well...you're not mistaken. This is your...our room.

Delnocha shyly enters the room and place his few belongings on the empty desk on the far side of the room. He motions to the stack of books on Emiyo's desk

Delnocha: So what are you studying here?

Appearance: Tall, and extremely tan. He has a shaved head and his body is covered in dark tattoos.
Primary Magic School: Summoning

Personality: Aibynn can be quick to anger. He is also very independent, since he was forced to fend for himself (using very little magic, as he was untrained) after he was exiled.

Aibynn walks through the gate of the academy, awed by the impressive sights he sees. "Is it all this magnificent?" he whispers to himself.

Emiyo and Delnocha had spent the last week becoming good friends. They had not thought so at first but they had a lot in common. Many people commented on the fact that they had exact opposite magic schools but were still great friends. To some it just didn't make sense.

Emiyo and Delnocha are seen practicing spells in an empty courtyard. Emiyo would launch a low level spell at Delnocha and he would block it... hopefully. But he usually did and when he didn't he knew healing spells well enough to heal his wound.

This was one such occasion. Emiyo was starting to get tired from the number of spells he had thrown at Delnocha and Delnocha was getting tired for the same reason. They both decided to stop and head back to their dorm to finish their spellwork.

(sorry about the no talking but i am tired and i got nothing)

Back in their room, Emiyo and Delnocha go to their desks to finish their work for the day.

Delnocha: Uh, blockade spells are so boring!! I wish they'd teach more advanced spells. I can't hold much longer with you firing new, enhanced destuctive forces at me!

Emiyo: Ha! I'm sure they'll get to it soon enough. Hey, come over here and help me figure out this spell...it's a new explosive spell, but the incantation has runes I've never seen before.

Delnocha walks over

Delnocha: Here, let me see that...

Delnocha begins reading the runes on the page

Delnocha: Odd, these are runes from Samsol. This could be very dangerous.

Emiyo: Well, it is an explosive spell

Delnocha: True. Okay...that one is "bet"...that's "Kah"....

As Delnocha reads, an inpot on the desk begins to glow and shake.
